‘The Turkic World Conference of Local Governments’ organized by the Association of Turkic World Municipal Offices and Prime Ministry Turkic Cooperation and development Administration (TIKA) was held in Dolmabahce Palace. Bulent Arinc, the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Besir Atalay, the Minister of State and Abdulkadir Aksu, the Minister of Domestic Affairs, and numerous mayors including Murat Aydin, the Mayor of Zeytinburnu, and other delegates of the Turkic world attended the meeting.

Murat Aydin, the Mayor of Zeytinburnu, who took the word in the afternoon session of the conference made a speech on the “Role of EU in the Development of Local Understandings Against Environmental Problems” in the Turkic World Conference of Local Governments, drew attention to that the world is under an environmental threat. “The environmental pollution and the spoiling in the ecologic balance made the mankind face the danger of a total extinction to day,” said Aydin. Aydin stated that the technological developments have to be transformed to the benefit of mankind with sensitive and conscious policies.

Mayor Murat Aydin who underlined that serious pollutions were experienced in Iskenderun Gulf and in the Black Sea due to the industrial wastes of the developed countries especially in recent years said, “I hope the positive efforts that EU has shown directed at the legislations on the matter to give outcomes. In a world where benefactions are not fairly shared, at least the inconveniences should be shared fairly”. Murat Aydin, who emphasized that it is the local governments that face the environmental problems most frequently spoke as follows; “Therefore, the solution to the matter will happen through the important and successful progresses we are to make. If such projects are not put forward in a global scale by the local governments, then the ecologic balance, which is already shaken by floods and radical climate changes, will be ruined due to the wasting of mankind.”

Mayor Aydin, who also drew attention to that education was the way to a conscious and an environment-respecting community, said; “This is the most fundamental solution. Hopefully, the efforts of local governments to make people conscious will increase and improve in the following years.” Mayor Aydin completed his speech with the slogan “Environment shall not kill human, human shall not kill the environment”. The Turkic World Conference of Local Governments ended as one-page common declaration was issued.
